What are the most important criteria when choosing the driver you would want to play? Let’s say a club looked terrible and sounded terrible, you might not even want to try it out, but if it performed better than all other clubs, you would learn to love it wouldn’t you? I say that clearly, the most important criteria for a driver are distance and accuracy. I’m not intending to imply anything about the Nike SQ Dymo driver’s looks or sound. My point is that it really doesn’t matter, since it received 2nd place in reviews in the 2 most important categories: distance and accuracy.
Rankmark.com tested 36 drivers recently, and ranked each driver in several categories. The TaylorMade Burner driver finished in first place in both distance and accuracy, but only 2nd place in the overall category. The Nike SQ Dymo finished right behind the Burner in both of those critical categories, but didn’t rank at all in the overall category.
The SQ in the club’s title comes from its square shape. Many people think that square drivers are on the ugly side, but they have technical advantages. More of the weight of the club is concentrated behind even the perimeter of the club face. This means the club will be more forgiving on mis-hits. This also means that it is harder to shape your shot (hit an intentional draw or fade), because the ball just wants to go straight. For the vast majority of us, that is good news, as the guy in the video below points out. You can see what some British guys think about this club in the video below:
So, I’m a little bit confused as to why the SQ Dymo didn’t rank at all in the overall category when it seems that placing well in the distance and accuracy category should count for something—even if it didn’t rank at all in the feel and appearance category. Whatever the case may be, this driver is underrated in general, and may very well be worth checking out.
Go to Golfsmith to find the current price of the SQ Dymo, and find out more of the technical specs and about the shaft options.
