Here’s a riddle for you: A Toronto native won the Canadian Open, but Canadians are disappointed that a Canadian didn’t win the Canadian Open. How can that be? Well, it’s not that hard to figure out, but it is an unlikely occurrence. Nathan Green is from Toronto, Australia, and his TaylorMade golf clubs took him to his first PGA tour victory.

Stewart Cink took his Nike clubs to Scotland, and is coming home with an extra claret jug for his first major victory. He beat Tom Watson in a 4 hole playoff. Cink birdied the 72nd hole to even get into the playoff, and then played great in the playoff, making 2 birdies.
Of course, most people were rooting for Tom Watson who at the age of 59 was the story of the week. Who would have expected such an old-timer to compete? Watson has already won the British Open 5 times, and even though I was rooting for him, I’m happy for Cink.

I like this offer because it’s very creative. If you buy Cleveland® Golf's CG7™ irons, CG7™ Tour irons, Launcher® irons, HiBORE® Xli irons, CG® Tour irons or HiBORE® Bloom® Xli irons for women before the end of 2009, you can trade them in for a new, updated set of irons anytime between January 2010 and December 2011 (2 years). This means that for the next 4 years, you can have irons that are only at most 2 years old, all for the price of one set of irons.

Here’s what the marketing department at Ping has to say about the Ping G10 driver, “Using finite element analysis (FEA) driven by a Cray Supercomputer, Ping engineers optimized the G10 driver's crown, sole and face structure interaction to ensure maximum energy transfer to the ball. The 460cc driver features a larger profile with a taller face and deeper crown that produces a higher MOI (moment of inertia) for greater forgiveness and increased ball velocity.”

From 340 feet above Petco Park, Briny Baird hit 10 golf balls at a target that was 268 yards away. The target was in right field, and the purpose was charity. For each bull’s eye, P.F. Chang’s donated $2000. The inner and outer ring meant a donation of $1000 and $500. He scored on 8 out of 10 shots, and earned $17,500 for the San Diego Navy/Marine Corps Relief Society. He started out thinking a 5-iron was the right club, but an easy 9-iron turned out to be the right club.

What are the most important criteria when choosing the driver you would want to play? Let’s say a club looked terrible and sounded terrible, you might not even want to try it out, but if it performed better than all other clubs, you would learn to love it wouldn’t you? I say that clearly, the most important criteria for a driver are distance and accuracy. I’m not intending to imply anything about the Nike SQ Dymo driver’s looks or sound. My point is that it really doesn’t matter, since it received 2nd place in reviews in the 2 most important categories: distance and accuracy.

Sean O’Hair won the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday. Sean plays TaylorMade golf clubs, except for one Cleveland lob wedge. Quail Hollow’s finishing holes are referred to as the green mile, and are very tough finishing holes. In spite of taking bogey on each of the last 2 holes, O’Hair won by one stroke over Lucas Glover.

The Rankmark.com irons test reveals the best golf clubs set as the Titleist AP1 irons. There’s not a remarkable difference in the appearance between the AP1 and the AP2 irons. The AP1 irons are for higher handicappers (but not necessarily high handicappers), and are made of stainless steel, whereas the AP2 irons are made of forged carbon steel.

The Titleist AP2 irons were submitted to Rankmark.com for their testing and comparison with many other brands. The AP2s did very well, taking 4th place, and beat out many other companies. You can click on Titleist golf clubs for a quick overview of all of Titleist’s irons and other clubs.
The AP 2 irons have been very successful on the PGA Tour. So far, in 2009, Nick Watney won the Buick Championship, and Zach Johnson and Adam Scott finished first and second at the Sony Open with the AP2 irons.

Rankmark.com tested the irons or several companies, and recently announced the 5 best sets. The Mizuno MP-52 irons took the 5th spot, which means that even though they’re not the best, they outrank the vast majority of other companies’ irons out there.
Mizuno is probably best known for their irons. Just last week, 4 out of the top 5 finishers at the PGA tournament in Harbor Town played Mizuno golf clubs—specifically Mizuno irons. The tight fairways and small greens favored accurate iron play.
