Best Hybrid Golf Club: Callaway X Series

In Rankmark.com’s test of hybrid golf clubs, the Callaway X Series took the top spot. You can check out the Bobby Jones hybrids and the Ping Rapture hybrids, which took 2nd and 3rd place.

Many people say that the Callaway X Series hybrids should be hit more like an iron than a wood. You can sweep the ball of the fairway with a fairway wood, but with irons, it’s more like pinching the ball.

One guy bought the 3H to play on courses that have a little tighter fairways, since it’s easier to hit a hybrid out of the rough. He played a few practice rounds with it, and was happy with the club, but planned on sticking with the original plan of only playing the hybrid on the tighter courses.

He played a tournament with this club, and he said that he’ll never bother with his 3 iron again. He looks for opportunities to play this club, because he can hit a draw or straight shot. He can hit it anywhere between 190 and 215 yards. The thing that really sold him on it was a shot on a par 5 from just outside the fairway. He hit a good shot and it landed in the middle of the green. With the hybrid the ball rolled few feet and stopped. He’s certain that with his 3 iron, it would have rolled off the back of the green, and gone into the pond that was behind the green.

Hybrids are versatile clubs and useful for so many shots. Personally, the think I like most about them is the fact that you can hit them out of the rough due to the low center of gravity. There is often no hope of hitting an iron out of the rough if the grass is too deep. There’s nothing worse than the feeling of having to hit a 7 iron out of deep grass when you have 250 yards to the green. Hybrids solve that problem.
