Callaway Golf Clubs’ FT Fairway Wood Crowned Champ

Recently Golf Digest came out with their hot list of golf clubs. I don’t really care for their system, because they receive a lot of advertising money from the big companies, and they had a weird way of choosing winners. There was about 5 models that received the gold medal, 5 received silver and 5 bronze. It doesn’t really make much sense to have 5 gold medal winners. It kind of defeats the point of having a gold medal, and pretty much all of the entries won something. How can the club that performed dead last win a bronze medal? Rankmark.com seems to provide more reliable testing, and Callaway’s FT Fairway wood took 1st place in their 3-wood competition.

In my experience, Callaway seems to be the flashiest golf company. They have bold colors and interesting designs. I still remember when they came out with the Big Bertha. It was big, and it was very popular and expensive. However, being the flashiest golf company doesn’t mean they have the best clubs. It’s good to see that there is at least some substance to go with the flashiness of the FT 3-wood.

I’ve used a 4-wood for many years. I replaced my 3-wood and 5-wood with the 4-wood. The course I play on is a little bit on the short side, and you can hit driver on most of the holes. I liked hitting my 3-wood off the tee on some courses with tight fairways, and I liked hitting the 5-wood in the fairway. I figured the 4-wood would be a good compromise. By doing that, I was able to add a lob wedge, which is good at my home course, because the greens are so small, and it’s very good for chipping.

You can get a FT 4-wood unless you’re left handed. They don’t even make left handed golf clubs in the FT fairway woods line for certain clubs. You can only get a left handed FT in the 3-wood and 5-wood.
