Callaway FT Irons Take 2nd Place In Irons Testing

In Rankmark.com’s recent irons testing, the Callaway FT irons took 2nd place overall. Callaway made a very good showing in the test. The Callaway X-22 Irons took 3rd place, and Callaway walks away with 2 out of the top 5 spots. The Mizuno MP-52 irons took 5th place, and the Titleist AP2 irons took 4th place.

Feel

The FT irons ranked #1 in this category. Generally, the irons with good feel are blades, and good players like the feel given by blades because it helps them work the ball. Game improvement and cavity back irons generally have less feel, because the sweet spot is bigger. Callaway attributes the feel to the TPU SenSert insert, which decreases the vibration.

Forgiveness

Generally, feel would go down as forgiveness goes up. That doesn’t seem to be true with these irons. They ranked 3rd for forgiveness. In order to be forgiving, designers move weight to the perimeter of the club head. This increases moment of inertia and forgiveness, but decreases feel. Blades have good feel, but are very unforgiving.

Accuracy

These irons ranked 5th in accuracy. Accuracy is an important aspect of irons, and 5th place is below where these irons came in in other categories, but is still good.

Callaway intended these irons for low to mid handicappers, and in the testing, they received 2nd place among low handicappers. They also were the highest rated irons for seniors.

So the FT irons are clearly a very good design. If you want to check the current price of these clubs, you can go to Golfsmith.
