Callaway FT-9 Driver Review and Testing

The Callaway FT-9 driver has done very well in reviews and testing. Rankmark.com tested 36 drivers, and the FT-9 took 5th place overall. The FT-9 is designed for better players to be able to work the ball with a draw or fade, but golfers of all handicaps have benefited from this driver.

Phil Mickelson plays the FT-9 driver, and is obviously playing well with it this year, having already won with it twice. In the Callaway golf clubs article, there is a video where Phil describes the clubs he plays, and he explains that he has a tendency to fade or slice the ball under pressure. The engineers at Callaway have set up his driver to help eliminate that tendency. It’s too bad we don’t all have engineers at our disposal, but we can all be fitted for custom golf clubs.

Players have also given the FT-9 excellent reviews. There is an ongoing promotion for free free Callaway fairway wood(s), and one guy purchased the FT-9 just because it was a good deal, even though he mostly just wanted the fairway woods. He tried the FT-9, and he can’t get enough of it. He says it’s improved his game quite a bit.

Many also say that the FT-9 has good feel. It’s good to have feel in a club if you want to be able to shape your shots. Better players often want to fade or draw a ball around a dog leg, or into the wind or away from a hazard. Having good feel in a club means that the club lends itself to being workable. However, higher handicappers who want a more forgiving driver, may not want that. They just want to hit the ball straight, and for the club to be forgiving in mis-hits. A driver that lends itself to being workable, isn’t going to be as forgiving.

Overall, the FT-9 has received great reviews, and has proven itself in even more scientific testing. You can check out the price of all of Callaway's clubs at Golfsmith.
